Shining

I live in a country that does not yet exist
I wish I brought you into a world better than this
It’s a world of hatred, misunderstanding, factories and cars
But still it beats Mercury, Venus and Mars

I live in a land that’s still trying to be born
And we don’t have to look very far in the past to say we haven’t been warned
The Golden Rule is so simple, but so simple to ignore out of hand
What part of “we’re all created equal” is so hard to understand

Hey, when the darkness comes
When it seems like endless night
That’s the time to shine
Keep shinin’ your light

Tell me, do I stay and fight
Do I take my stand
Or do we get the hell outta Dodge
While we still can

My soul is still trying to come alive
One lifetime is barely enough, might need four or five
Maybe we get recycled like the plastic that we send back to the plant every week
But as long as we’re still in the game, we can search for what we seek

Hey, when the darkness comes
When it seems like endless night
That’s the time to shine
Keep shinin’ your light
