Rollerblades

Let me tell you ’bout the night I decided to buy some rollerblades
I’ll tell you ’bout the night I decided to buy some rollerblades
My poet and my painter friend called me from a bar
They said take a taxi if you don’t have a car
We’ll talk about Monica and Clinton and Starr
And that was the best night that I spent
In New York so far

I was living in a hotel on 25th and 3rd Avenue
A noodle shop and a pizza place was my view
The poet had lived six years in the hotel
The painter was from England from the town of Bristol
Massive Attack was playing and he said he could get us all in
‘Cause they’re from Bristol, too
And that was the best night that I spent in New York so far

I should say by way of explanation
That this girl I met in Amsterdam
Turned me on to Massive Attack
She was cool and so are they
And life is good sometimes

After the show we went to a party with the band
I didn’t say a word to anybody, that’s how I am
The poet left the party to meet up with a girl
Me and the painter started walking up Third
At four in the morning for a doner-kabob
And somewhere in there I decided to buy some rollerblades
The next day

That was the best night that I spent
That was the best night that I spent
That was the best night that I spent
In New York so far
