A Planet With Two Suns

My planet was beautiful,
Flowers growin’ three miles high
450 different colours
Sometimes it was almost too many
Twice a day we saw the sun rise
Twice a day a golden sunset
That was before the catastrophe
When the days were a uniform length
Before a year of 17 winters
When a day could be a minute or a year

I come from a planet with two suns
One of them exploded
And we went spinning madly
Across the solar system–

My people had eleven senses
All of your seven plus some other ones
We knew how to travel on a symphony
We knew how to have sex with the sky
We knew how to drink our lovers
And we understood you can never say goodbye
I knew I had to find a place of refuge
If I wanted to survive

I had enough gasoline
To travel 50 trillion miles in one direction
Your planet seemed suitable
Even if it looked a little boring

I understand Jesus visited you
A couple thousand years ago
He came to us more recently
Don’t feel sorry that you treated him bad
Everybody does
Don’t feel bad that you put him on the cross
We flushed him down a black hole

I come from a planet with two suns
One of them exploded
And we went spinning madly
Across the solar system

I understand your scientists are working real hard
To unlock the secrets of the universe
They finally figured out the Big Bang
Ha, we’ve known it for 30,000 years
Every time the Big Bang booms
Everything stretches out, then comes back again
How many Big Bangs have there been
That’s an easy thing to figure out
The number is 57, followed by
138 billion zeros

Why is this happening
Why did the sun explode
Will I ever see my home again
Will I ever find my true love

I come from a planet
With beautiful things and beautiful stars
I come from a planet
Will I ever see, will I ever see it
Again–

I come from a planet with two suns
One of them exploded
And we went spinning madly
Across the solar system…
