My Summer Vacation

At my family reunion
There wasn’t much happenin’
It was quie, it was boring
Wasn’t very many of us

And the few of us there was
Were talkin’ ‘bout the others
Said they’d all been killed by Hitler
In the early 1940’s

So I said this is awful
Must be something I can do
To make this a real reunion,
To make everybody happy

Everyone happy
Everyone happy
Everyone happy

So I jumped into a Time Machine
And rode back to the twenties
And I wound up in a Beer Hall
In the center of Berlin

And I jumped up on a table
And in my loudest manner
I said may I have your attention
On this real important matter

And I warned them about Hitler
Yeah I said don’t follow Hitler
For he’s nothing but a madman
Who will bring disgrace upon you

And I spoke the same speech
In every corner of the city
Even got it on the radio
And in the morning paper

Told them ‘bout Hitler
Warned them ’bout Hitler
Said don’t support Hitler

Well, that’s how I spent my summer vacation
How’s about yours, how’s about yours
That’s how I spent my summer vacation
How’s about yours….

And i went back to my
Family reunion
And to my dismay
There wasn’t much happenin’

No bunches of uncles
No aunts and little kids
All runnin’ round the table
Makin’ noise and spillin’ drinks

Just a few old folks
And the few of them there was
Were talking ‘bout the others
Said they’d all been killed by Hitler

In the early 1940’s
And I thought this is awful
I guess nobody
Paid attention to my warning

Gonna have to try again
But this time I ain’t gonna
Leave nothin’ up to chance
This time I’m killing Hitler

Killing Hitler
Killing Hitler
Killing Hitler

So I jumped back in the Time Machine
And rode back to the ‘20s
And wound up in a Beer Hall
In the center of Berlin

And from the corner of my eye
I saw a little man
With a Chaplin mustache
And a face unmistakable

My blood ran cold
But just to make certain
I approached and asked his name
He said I am Adolph Hitler

I said would you come outside
There’s a business proposition
That I think you’ll find agreeable
He looked at me and nodded

Then he finished up his beer
And we walked out of the tavern
Into a little alley
And he said all right, what is it

And I picked up a stone
And smashed it on his skull
He screamed and he fell down and he
Tried to crawl away

I smashed him repeatedly
‘Til finally he stopped moving
And I realized he was dead
And that I had killed Hitler

And that’s how I spent my summer vacation
How’s about yours, how’s about yours
That’s how I spent my summer vacation
How’s about yours

Then I went back to my
Family reunion
Lookin’ forward to a great, big
Bash of a party

But to my dismay
There wasn’t much happenin’
Just the same few old geezers
Lookin’ sad and kinda lonely

And I said what’s goin’ on here
Don’t you know that I killed Hitler
Where is everybody
S’posed to be a big reunion

And the few of them there was
Were talkin ‘bout the others
Said they’d all been killed by Gruber
In the early 1940’s

I said who the hell is Gruber
They said ,you know Fritz Gruber
The madman, the murderer
The one who was responsible

I said no, you are mistaken
The one who is responsible
His name is Adolf Hitler
And I killed Hitler

I killed Hitler
I killed Hitler
I killed Hitler

And that’s how I spent my summer vacation
How’s about yours, How’s about yours
That’s how I spent my summer vacation
How’s about yours, how’s about yours
How’s about yours
How’s about yours
How’s about yours….
