Come Fire or Flood

With the clouds rollin in and the thunder from just beyond the hills
And the lines round the block of the dogs and the cats and the babies signin off on their wills
And this is my coin collection, here’s my poetry
Here’s my body, here’s my blood
I’ll see you again, come fire or flood

Just when you think your fears are the stuff of comic books
You turn on the news, they’ve shut down the borders,
They’ve shut down th bars, they fired the cooks
And all your dreams are like waking up from dreams,
when you fall out of bed with a thud
But I’ll see you again, come fire or flood

And you figure there’s nothing worse that could happen as far as the plagues comin by
Then you check your notes and examine the goats and realize so far its only frogs and flies
But the plagues can raise the righteous, and sink the damned into the mud
And I’ll see you again, come fire or flood

The owl and the pussycat went to sea, and the owl did not return
Maybe the water got too high or maybe the woods began to burn
Sure as the horse chomps a mouthful of hay, and the cow chews its cud
I’ll see you again come fire or flood

Sound effects records play nonstop all day long in the deserted town square
I sent away for tumbleweeds, the box said handle with care
Maybe it won’t be with flowers and songs and a big old bag of bud
But I’ll see you again, come fire or flood
